There are 2 locations of this dessert shop in San Diego: one near Balboa Park and one in Little Italy. I prefer the Balboa Park location.
My sister lives in San Diego and we make it a habit to go to Extraordinary Desserts whenever my parents visit. It's a trendy little shop where the line can stretch out the door and down the street if you come at the wrong time. Inside is a long display counter filled with all manner of delicacies: tarts, cookies, pastries, and of course, decadent cakes galore. Beautiful, rich, decadent cakes - for the chocoholic or fruit lover. I love the Torta Misu, Gianduia, La Bete Noir, Truffe Framboise and my latest discovery: Caribe.
It's a dark chocolate cake infused with mango, banana and passionfruit. Absolutely delicious! The fruit sauce helps cut through the chocolatelyness of the cake.

You place your order at the counter and pay, then receive a number, find an empty table (I like to sit out on the patio if the weather's nice), and wait for them to bring out your order.

Warning: these cakes are seriously rich so I recommend sharing a slice between 2 people. I have a pretty strong sweet tooth but one of these babies is too much for me to polish off by myself. They are also a bit pricey, but as an occasional indulgence, definitely worth it!
